New photo rules

Today I want to announce some major changes to the rules on member photos on Oh My Japan.

No more showing other people’s faces in group photos

First, we are no longer allowing you to add photos that show other people’s faces, including children. We made this decision for the following reasons.

There is no way for the people in the picture to give their consent to have the photo added to Oh My Japan.
OMJ members want to see you, not your friends.

You cannot see other members’ photos unless you add your own photo

We are introducing this new rule in the interest of fairness. If you want to see other members’ photos, then you will need to add your own.

If you do not wish to add a photo, you can still message other members and access all of their profile except the photos.

Tell us what you think!

Let us know what you think about these changes.
