The latest news from Oh My Japan's development team
We at Oh My Japan hope you have had a great year.
To celebrate the year-end and New Year holidays, starting today, all members can send messages to a new person every day.
During this time, we hope you are able to make long-lasting connections with Japanese people that will continue for years and years!
Today I want to announce some major changes to the rules on member photos on Oh My Japan.
No more showing other people’s faces in group photos
First, we are no longer allowing you to add photos that show other people’s faces, including children. We made this decision for the following reasons.
There is no way for the people in the picture to give their consent to have the photo added to Oh My Japan.
OMJ members want to see you, not your friends.
You cannot see other members’ photos unless you add your own photo
This week, Japan is celebrating Silver Week, and as part of the celebration, Oh My Japan is allowing all members who have completed their profiles to send messages to two new people per day until September 30 (normally, members can only send messages to two new people per week unless they have a paid account).
We hope you are able to make long-lasting connections with Japanese people during this week that will continue for years and years!
Oh My Japan was founded on Tanabata (July 7), 2012. We chose the date of Tanabata because of its significance as a Japanese holiday about the connections between people.
Until July 14, all members can send messages to two new people per day.
(Normally, free members can only send messages to two new people per week.)
To date, more than 150,000 messages have been exchanged on Oh My Japan.
We hope you are able to make long-lasting connections with Japanese people that will continue for years.
